It is not unusual for patients to arrive in Dr. Linder's office in Beverly Hills or Las Vegas who have had breast augmentation and are unhappy with the symmetry of their breasts. Breast asymmetry can occur before surgery or can be associated with a surgery done incorrectly.
Patients who develop severe scar tissue around the implant have capsular contracture. It can be classified in four scales with grade IV being the worst where a patient has severe painful, hard breasts with visible distortion.
Dr. Linder sees patients from all over the world, including Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Las Vegas, who will have ruptured implants. Implant simply do rupture over time, both silicone and saline.
We see patients weekly who have implants unfortunately placed in a malpositioned pocket. The most likely etiology is that the implants were placed through an approach that is difficult to allow for precise dissection, i.e., transumbilical and possibly transaxillary.
Patients present to Dr. Linder both in Beverly Hills and in Las Vegas with severe deformities of the breasts. One deformity that frequently occurs is the Double-Bubble Breast Deformity where the implants are high riding and the appearance of the breasts is very abnormal.
Bottoming out on patients is seen all the time by Dr. Linder in his Beverly Hills/Hollywood as well as Las Vegas breast practice. Patients can be seen for bottoming out for many reasons. One reason is malposition of the implants.
As women change and get older, their desire to change their breasts may occur as well. As women age, they often desire to downsize their breast implant sizes. In my practice, I have found that women who are entering into their 40's and 50's desire to have their implants made smaller, sometimes one to two cup sizes.
Dr. Linder, a specialist in breast revision surgery sees patients from Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Las Vegas regular, who have had anatomical implants placed and now have an absolutely bizarre shape to their breasts.
It's not often, however, it does occur several times throughout each year that Dr. Linder is asked by patients to have their implants removed and explanted. Explantation of implants is a relatively simple operation.
It's not uncommon that scarring can occur that is significant from breast lifts and breast reductions associated with primary breast augmentation procedures. In fact, placing an implant concurrently with a mastopexy may increase widespread scarring, keloiding or hypertrophic scarring.
